HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
The American Corner (AC) was established in May 13, 1992 when Ateneo de Davao University Library received the donation of library collections of the former United States Information Service (USIS) Davao. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed by the Public Affairs Officer Mr. Morton S. Smith, representing the U.S. Embassy, and Fr. Antonio S. Samson, S.J., President of the Ateneo de Davao University from 1986-1993; 2005 – present.
In 2003, the AC was closed for renovation. On the occasion of its reopening on February 4, 2004, a new MOA was signed by Mr. Ronald Post, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy and Fr. Edmundo M. Martinez, S.J., President of the Ateneo de Davao University from 1993-2004. The new MOA reflects the improved facilities provided by the university and the updated collection from the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.
OBJECTIVES
1. To support the American Studies Program of the University.
2. To provide resources for research about United States, it's history, life and culture, social and political processes.
3. To provide educational advising services to individuals who may plan to study in the United States.

The American Corner (AC) is on the 2nd Floor, Wieman Building, adjacent to the Technical Section of the Main Library.

RESOURCES AND FACILITIES
The AC collection includes books, periodicals, CD-ROMs, videotapes, VCDs, DVDs, posters, and publications of private and public American organizations and agencies.
The AC is air-conditioned and has facilities for Internet and online databases access, and for film viewing.
SERVICES
1. REFERENCE AND RESEARCH
Reference and research assistance is provided by the full-time professional librarians. The AC also accepts and responds to inquiries received by phone, fax, e-mail and post.
2. BOOK LOANS
Borrowing privileges are granted only to Ateneo de Davao University faculty members, students and staff.
3. INTERNET USE
Electronic information resources are to be used in a manner consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which they are intended.
4. ONLINE DATABASES
A. EbscoHost is a web-based periodical database that provides full-texts and abstracts for thousands of peer-reviewed and scholarly journals covering the social sciences, humanities, business, nursing and more.
B. ProQuest 5000 provide access to nine multidisciplinary databases offering more than 9,000 journal titles with over 4,000 in full-text, constituting a complete core collection of journals in all key academic areas of the University.
C. CIPPA (Computerized Index to Philippine Periodical Articles) provides online index of local periodicals.
D. Ebrary is an online database that provides access to over 40,000 titles of reference books covering different subject areas such as social sciences, business, humanities, engineering, nursing and more.
5. EDUCATIONAL ADVISING
The AC has an Educational Advising Section which offers the following services:
A. Provides information on standard tests such as GMAT, GRE, and TOEFL, as well as registration bulletins.
B. Assist students in choosing universities and fields of study and in preparing the documentation required for admission to American colleges and universities.
ACCESS TO THE COLLECTIONS
- AC collections' bibliographic information can be accessed in the Internet through Web Collection Plus (http://library.addu.edu.ph) and the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
- Books are arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification System.
